Here are some of the workshops that I have taught in person and online. All of these can be adapted to private, semi-private, small or large groups. Please use my contact form to inquire.

Italic Calligraphy

Foundational Hand

The Italic Hand is a slightly sloped style of calligraphy that was developed during the Renaissance in Italy. It is one of the most popular styles used in contemporary Western calligraphy, and is often one of the first scripts learned by beginning calligraphers.
​
This workshop will provide step-by-step demonstration and individualized instruction to help each student produce beautiful Italic letterforms. If you have experience with Italic, let's explore variations and ways to make your Italic more dynamic!

Suggested time: 6 sessions (approx 18 hours)

Intro to Copperplate

​This workshop will introduce students to Copperplate – a calligraphic script created with a pointed, metal nib. Students will be presented with step-by-step demonstrations of how to use and care for your special tools; and how to construct a lower case alphabet and one variation of capital letters.  Take the mystery out of how to make these beautiful letterforms! No calligraphic experience necessary.

​Suggested time: 3 sessions (approx 6 hours)

Calligraphy for Kids

​Students will be introduced to calligraphy using different types of marker pens. Students will be introduced to different calligraphic hands using different types of markers; brush marker, Crayola marker writing, and chisel marker. 

​Step-by-step demonstrations will guide students through each alphabet. Each style of writing will be used to complete a special project such as a greeting card, envelope or simple book. 
 

Appropriate for ages 12 and up.

​Suggested time: 3 sessions (approx 6 hours)

Gather a small group of friends to learn some calligraphy basics, or create something unique, like a small book, or your own envelopes, or learn a 'technique' such as creating paste-papers or other paper-decorating techniques. 

Appropriate for 12 and up!​

​Suggested time: 1 session (approx. 2-4 hours)

Explore the art of calligraphy in this course for beginners. This workshop will introduce students to the Foundational Hand. This hand-written alphabet was developed by Edward Johnston in the early 20th century as a beginner’s alphabet and was instrumental in re-introducing the broad-edged pen (used by medieval scribes) to the modern world.

​This workshop will provide step-by-step demonstration and individualized instruction to help each student produce beautiful letterforms. ​If you have experience with Foundational, let's explore variations and ways to make your writing more dynamic!

​Suggested time: 6 sessions (approx 18 hours)

Brush Lettering

​The pointed brush is one of the most versatile tools in a calligrapher’s toolbox. From elegant flourishes to bold, chunky strokes, the pointed brush gives the scribe a world creative options.
​
This workshop will introduce students popular style of writing using a brush marker. Brush Lettering with a marker is easy to learn and could just get you hooked on the wonderful art of calligraphy. This workshop will provide step-by-step demonstration to help each student produce beautiful letterforms. By the end of the workshop students will be able to complete a final project of a small piece or envelope. No experience necessary! 

​Suggested time: 2 sessions (approx 4 hours)

Calligraphy with
​everyday tools

Students will be led through a series of lettering exercises using tools that can typically be found at home. Students will be presented with fun ways to approach calligraphy with pencils, ballpoint pens, and magic markers.

​Along the way the instructor will introduce calligraphy definitions and terminology that would be a solid foundation to learning more formal calligraphy if students chose to continue their study with more traditional tools. Small projects such as a greeting card, envelope, simple book, or bookmark are all possible and will be demonstrated using these every-day tools! 

Appropriate for 12 and up!​
